Fifteen minute oral history with Carl A. Johnson, who was president of the Deschutes Pioneers Association in 1953 when KBND launched this series. Carl also gave the first oral history interview in the series, which was originally broadcast on February 22, 1953. After general reminiscences about the origins of the Deschutes Pioneers Association, Carl delves into his personal history, discussing arriving in Bend to work for Shevlin Hixon in 1915. Carl had worked in lumber in Minnesota before following a lumber job west to Bend. He discusses early days in Bend, including early entertainment such as parties at the Emblem Club. Interview conducted by KBND in 1953 as part of an oral history series with the Deschutes County Pioneers. Originally broadcast on February 22, 1953.
