W., or “Billie” Vandervert, was part of the Vandervert family who homesteaded at the Vandervert ranch between present day Sunriver and LaPine. Vandervert discusses arriving via wagon in 1892, old roads in Central Oregon, fishing in the Deschutes River, traveling over the Santiam pass to Eugene, early schooling, early Fourth of July celebrations, all night dances at the A. M. Drake property, and Hugh O’Kane and the Pilot Butte Inn. Interview conducted by KBND in 1953 as part of an oral history series with the Deschutes County Pioneers.
